Sleeping Children Around the World is a foundation which provides bedkits to children all over the world. The bedkits are $30 each and are made in the same country to which the kits are being sent. The bedkits consists of a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if necessary), clothing outfit, towel and school supplies.
Murray Dryden (the founder of SCAW) knew how vital a few hours of comfort and sleep could be to help one forget the extremes of temperature, the hopelessness, the sickness, and the pangs of hunger.
During the Great Depression in the 1930's, while travelling East from Manitoba looking for work, he endured many nights without food or a bed. He felt that “the comfort of a bed is a basic right of every child,” and that, “There is nothing more peaceful than a sleeping child.” www.scaw.org
Dorothy Ley Hospice offers compassionate care to patients who are terminally ill. This care helps patients and their families live their lives to the fullest regardless of how much time they have left. Their goal is to help people live in comfort with their pain managed, and with dignity, meaning and hope. The Dorothy Ley Hospice is a volunteer-based community hospice with more than 300 volunteers, trained and supported by professionals.
They provide support to nearly 500 clients every year, primarily in their homes.
They meet the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of people who have been told they have less than a year to live because of a life-threatening illness. This is done through needs assessment, in-home visiting, day program, spiritual care, bereavement support, and referrals to additional service providers.
